BATAVIA, NY (WKBW) - The Genesee County Sheriff's Department is investigating a head-on crash that happened on Route 5 and Hopkins Road in Batavia Saturday afternoon.
According to police, 30-year-old Hope Calhoun lost control of her van and struck a patch of ice while traveling east on Route 5. The vehicle crossed the center line and struck a pick-up truck headed west on Route 5 head-on.
Calhoun was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. Two children, ages 8 and 4 were also in the van, but secured in child safety seats.
Calhoun was taken by Mercy Flight to ECMC with serious injuries, where at last check she was in the Trauma Unit.
The two children in the van were taken by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester where they were treated and released.
The driver of the pick-up, Kenneth Thomas was taken to United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia with a leg injury. His passenger, 49-year-old Wendy Howard was also taken to UMMC with rib injuries.
The accident remains under investigation, but police say alcohol did not play a role.
