A suspected jewelry thief led police on a chase in Cheektowaga on Sunday afternoon. Cheektowaga Police Captain Jim Speyer says the suspected thief went to Jared the Galleria of Jewelry on Walden Avenue where he was looking at two diamond rings, one valued at $4,299.99 and the other at $5,899.99. Police say the suspect grabbed both rings, ran out of the store and drove away in a car that had been stolen recently from a nearby flea market.

Jared employees were able to provide police with a description of the suspect and car. An officer spotted the car on Walden near Duke Road. Police say when the suspected realized he'd been spotted, he crossed over the median into on-coming traffic and then fled on foot heading south toward Broadway. Police believe a passing train slowed down the fleeing suspect and they eventually found him hiding under a Thruway bridge.

Police tell Eyewitness News the suspect did not have any ID on him but he told officers he is 18-year-old Frankie Livingston of Detroit, Michigan. Police say Livingston had the stolen rings in his possession. He's facing several charges including grand larceny and reckless driving.
