ORCHARD PARK, NY (WKBW) -- The heavy lake effect snow covered roads and caused dozens of accidents during the evening commute on Tuesday. "I would say somewhere in the range of 15 to 20 accidents in that short time frame," Lt. Mark Pacholec, with the Orchard Park Police Department, said. "We had multiple accidents along the 219, vehicles spinning, hitting guard rails, going off the road."

The snowy roads caused a school bus accident in Orchard Park in the northbound lanes of the 219 late in the afternoon. More than a dozen students from the Springville Griffith Institute were on board. No one was injured.

And earlier in the day emergency crews were called to the NFTA Small Boat Harbor in Buffalo. Rescuers worked to bring an 80 year old ice fisherman to shore after he slipped and fell outside of his hut and was unconscious for a short time.
