Hamburg, NY (WKBW)- Police are investigating an early morning crash Friday in Hamburg at the South Park Avenue and Big Tree Road traffic circle.

Hamburg Police say the one-car crash happened at 1:30 a.m.

Investigators say a truck was traveling northbound on South Park Avenue and hit a curb near the traffic circle. The vehicle went airborne, crashed into boulders inside the circle, and burst into flames.

Detectives believe speed played a factor in the crash. The driver was declared dead on the scene.

Police are not releasing the victim's name, but family members tell Eyewitness News the driver is Ken Braun, owner of Cal's Jewelry in Blasdell.

Family members say Braun was known for his generosity within the community, and was kind and considerate to everyone.

Construction on the traffic circle was just completed this week in Hamburg, and police do not believe weather played and factor.

Officials are now waiting on toxicology results to see if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
