BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - "I feel ashamed," said Sheila Harris. "I feel sad."

Harris said she is heartbroken to learn that her son, 20-year-old Darryl Fortner, has been arrested and accused of knowingly having HIV and not information his sex partners.

"This is hard to take," she said. "You know, when it's your own child, when they keep stuff in the dark from you and you don't know."

Fortner is charged with first-degree reckless endangerment.

"It's very dangerous because again, it's one thing if it's two consenting partners that are aware of each others risks," said Det. Jeff Rinaldo with the Buffalo Police Sex Offense Squad. "And it's another thing if you don't disclose that you're basically gambling with the other person's health."

Fortner is scheduled to appear in Buffalo City Court on Tuesday.
