Springville, NY (WKBW) - Heavy smoke shut down a grain elevator in the Southtowns late Sunday afternoon.
Around 3 p.m., an engine spark started a fire at the Feed Mix Mill in Springville.
Authorities say no one was hurt and describe the damage as minimal, but say fighting the fire was not easy.
"Very challenging," says Springville Fire Chief Dennis Dains. "The easiest thing that we could do in the point of entry in the initial attack was to flood that wade-hopper with water, and let it make it's way down through the grain and let it contain the fire to that one level."
The owners expect the grain elevator to be back up and running by Sunday night.
