An Alabama town is giving non-violent offenders the choice to go to jail. ... or church.
According to a story on Time.com, Bay Minette launched Operation Restore Our Community this week, which gives a city judge the power to offer people found guilty of non-violent misdemeanors the choice between jail and a fine, or going to church every week for a year. The story says that offenders who complete the program will have their cases dropped.
