Business First is taking a look at executive perks, from corporate jets and suites at sporting events. A report in this week's Business First shows how most top executives at public companies in WNY receive fairly routine benefits. UB analysts say that's due to public backlash against perks, especially during the recession, when the auto company leaders flew to Washington in a private jet to beg for money. In this week's Business First, you'll find a list of perks for top executives at WNY public companies. The values range from $10,000 to more than $120,000. Most are retirement contributions and life insurance. There are some meals, corporate jets and country club memberships as well.

Business First is also taking a close look at the design for the $220 million John R. Oishei Children's Hospital. Designers must consider the population, immigration and disease trends since that influences the length of stay. The hospital will be located on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. Designers wanted to make sure it fit in with the neighborhoods around it. The new hospital is set to open in 2016.
