Hamburg, N.Y. (WKBW-TV) A 12 year old girl was injured after she fell from a ride at the Erie County Fair Wednesday evening.

The ride company, Strates Shows says ride operators for the "Sky Flyer" apparently overlooked the girl and started the ride without securing her. The girl was apparently attempting to get in the seat when the ride started. She fell about 10 feet, hurting her arm before being taken to a nearby hospital.

"She couldn't find a way to get in so she was trying to get up but then a couple seconds layer it just flew up into the air and she was hanging," said Gabrielle Geffort who was on the ride as it happened.

"The girl wasn't even seated yet and all of a sudden they started the ride....the girl fell out of the swing straight to the ground," said Rodney Geffort who watched the whole thing.

"It appears to be one of those cases where someone went to the left and someone went to the right and just a human interaction problem and that lapse is not acceptable and so we're gonna correct it," said Jim Strates of Strates Shows.

Following the incident the ride was shut down and inspected. It was reopened to riders after the decision to I cress the ride's crew from two operators to three.

The ride company has provided rides for the fair for 90 years. The company is headquartered in Sarasota, Florida.
