Gillibrand To Announce New 'Upstate Works Act' to Create new Jobs, Grow Upstate Economy

Washington D.C. (WKBW release) -- To create new jobs and set the environment for a strong and growing upstate economy, New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand will announce her new Upstate Works Act Wednesday, legislation to provide targeted support for a range of sectors of upstate New York’s economy.

An estimate of nearly 300,000 upstate New Yorkers are currently out of work. Upstate New York lost an estimated total of more than 3,600 construction jobs in the last year, according to the New York State Department of Labor and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The Upstate Works Act would retool manufacturers for the clean energy economy, ensures our workforce is prepared for the jobs of the future, offers new opportunities for family farms to bring in additional income, connects more upstate businesses with new markets through better access to broadband, and creates new construction jobs rebuilding roads, highways and other critical infrastructure.
