This is the last weekend before Lent begins so it is a chance to indulge for many people, especially those who like Paczki, the Polish donuts.

Fat Tuesday marks Paczki Day, when people overload on sweets before they give it all up for Lent, which begins the next day on Ash Wednesday.

Longtime Buffalo bakeries serve the Polish donuts, but this is the first Paczki Day without Pumpernick and Pastry. The bakery chain closed its doors last year so the remaining bakeries expect to be very busy, especially because the tradition is catching on with more people.

"We're having more and more people come every year," said Dominique Poslinski with E.M. Chrusciki. "People tell other people and they come out. It's really becoming a big tradition for lots of people."

Poslinksi says E.M. Chrusciki Bakery has been gearing up for Paczki Day at both of its locations, at the Broadway Market and in Lancaster. Other longtime bakeries like Mazurek's, in Buffalo, and Eileen's, in West Seneca, are also gearing up for Tuesday.

Some area businesses are placing large orders at bakeries for their clients, which is helping to spread the sweet tradition.
