AKRON, NY (WKBW-TV) - A funeral director in Akron is facing a grand larceny charge tonight. New York State Police arrested Paris Childs of Childs Funeral Home in Akron after an investigation involving the theft of funds received by Childs Funeral Home for the purpose of Pre-paid or Pre-need accounts.
According to New York State General Business Law 453, all funds paid in advance for a funeral must be deposited in an investment backed by the United States Government, such as FDIC insured certificates of deposit or a New York State bank. Account statements showing interest earned must be reported annually to the consumer, or within 30 days after a request. The money shall be held in trust.
Anyone having entered into a Pre-paid or Pre-need Agreement with Childs Funeral Home that has not received a Confirmation Statement or Annual Interest Statement is asked to contact the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (716) 759-6831.
