Buffalo, NY (WKBW) - The Buffalo Sabres announced Thursday that they have plans to build a bronze statue of the famous "French Connection" as a centerpiece for a new "Alumni Plaza" outside of the First Niagara Center.
The statute will commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the most legendary line in Sabres history, comprised of Gilbert Perrault, Rene Robert, and the late Rick Martin and when they first played together.
Every Sabre will also be honored in the plaza. Brick columns supporting the walkway above the plaza will hold all 401 players that will be ingrained into plaques.
The 10 foot statue of the French Connection will be unveiled October 12th, the day before the Sabres home opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
