BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) - A former Cheektowaga restaurant owner pleaded guilty in court Tuesday morning to harboring illegal aliens.

U.S. Attorney William Hochul announced today that Wan Qin Lu pleaded guilty to harboring illegal aliens for commercial advantage and private financial gain.

Attorneys say Lu was the former owner and manager of the Easy Z Wok Restaurant in Cheektowaga.

Department of Homeland Security investigators gathered information that Lu was employing two illegal Mexican nationals.

Federal agents subsequently executed a search warrant at the restaurant and the defendant’s home, and during the search, discovered two Mexican immigrants living in the basement.

The investigation also revealed that the defendant was paying the illegal immigrants cash and avoiding to pay payroll taxes.

Lu faces a maximum 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000 or both.
