West Seneca, N.Y. (WKBW)

Emergency Crews worked to quickly evacuate residents along Lexington Green and Mineral Springs Road in West Seneca Saturday evening after the Buffalo Creek flooded the roadway.

John Gullo, Emergency Manager for West Seneca said about 20 homes were affected.

He said crews wanted to check the basements of homes to ensure flooding didn't damage anything and to safely disconnect utilities if needed.

Other waterways including the Cazenovia Creek in areas like West Seneca and South Buffalo were prone to flooding as the rain and rise in temperatures caused ice jams leading to an overflow of water.

In areas south of Buffalo flooding was an issue earlier in the day.

In Silver Creek, residents along Oliver Place and other nearby streets were temporarily evacuated due to rising waters.

A portion of Route 60 in Fredonia was closed down due to an ice jam causing flooding along the roadway, crews reopened the stretch just before 4 p.m.
