First Responders' Benefit for Johnson Family Cancelled

August 5, 2012 Updated Aug 5, 2012 at 11:46 AM EDT

BURT, NY (WKBW) The corn roast benefit for the Johnson family, scheduled for Sunday afternoon from 12:30 to 4p.m. at Murphy Orchards, has been cancelled.

Three Niagara County fire companies had planned the event to raise funds for the family, who lost their home in a house explosion on Tuesday, July 24.

Wrights Corners Fire Company, Miller Hose of Newfane, and the Olcott Fire Company were forced to cancel the event Sunday morning due to dangerously high winds, and a risk of severe thunderstorms.

Carol Murphy of Murphy Orchards tells Eyewitness News the corn roast will be rescheduled, and Murphy Orchards is working with the fire companies on a new date and time for the event.
