First Day for Buffalo Public Schools

BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - Kyla Igoe Live at Stanley Makowski Early Childhood School, Buffalo

In just a few short hours, hundreds of students will fill the schools within the Buffalo public school district. It's a new school year, and there's also dramatic changes happening in the district including the installation of a new superintendent Dr. Pamela Brown, who says the primary focus is going to be increasing the overall achievement of students.

Were here live at the Stanley M. Makowski Early Childhood Center that serves students in kindergarten through 4th grade and Kyla was joined by the Principal Dawn Di-Natali.

This year there will be a unique welcome to students as well as a new common core standards approved by board of regents.

Later on this morning the new Superintendent will be visting various schools that have been improving. The state commissioner of education will be in town, along with Board of Regents Chancellor Robert Bennett.
