BUFFALO, N.Y. ( WKBW ) A vacant church in North Buffalo at Tacoma and Colvin went up in flames late Saturday afternoon, injuring one of Buffalo's bravest, resulting in hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage.
The fire went to three alarms, with smoke and flames shooting up that could be seen for miles. Traffic in the area was blocked off so firefighters could work to put it out.
Eyewitness News cameras and Eyewitness News viewers captured dramatic images from the smoky scene.
Two of those pictures are from photographer Joe Casio, who captured photos of a Buffalo firefighter who suffered a leg injury. The identity of the firefighter, and exact condition were not immediately known at the time of this posting.
The former church structure has been vacant for several years. According to one neighbor who lives across from the building, reports that children and teenagers have been seen going in and out of the building have been reported to officials at City Hall many times.
Buffalo Fire Commissioner Garnell Whitfield told Eyewitness News the suspicious nature of the fire is under investigation.
Eyewitness News will continue to follow this story.
