Lockport, NY (WKBW) - Firefighters from almost half a dozen fire companies responded to a house fire on Dysinger Road in the Town of Lockport on Sunday.

The fire was first spotted by a passing driver at five on Sunday evening.

The driver was able to get the attention of the family of three inside the home and get them out of the house.

Damage to the home is significant.

Assistant Fire Chief from Rapids Volunteer Fire Company says "the mother and two children escaped, no injuries. The Red Cross is assisting them. We had several local fire companies on the scene helping."

The wind complicated efforts to battle the blaze. Due to the winds, it took crews almost an hour to get the flames under control.

Yurek explains "The wind makes the fire burn hotter and faster, so you go in for 15 minutes and come out for rehab. You have to have multiple crews, you have to have three sets of people for each operation, so you need more man power."

Investigators are not releasing what caused the fire.
