It's Halloween week, and the kids are getting excited to walk the neighborhood for lots of candy, but there is still a way to make the night healthy for your family. Here are some tips from the American Heart Association.
.) Eat first. Having a healthy meal beforehand will reduce their temptation to snack on candy while walking or to overindulge when they get home.
.) Bag it with the right size. Steer clear of the pillow case and encourage the kids to take only one piece of candy from each house. They will still be able to fill up their smaller bag.
.) Get moving. Set a goal of how many houses you will walk to and then stick to it. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes.
.) Avoid it all. Dress up your family in costumes and go see a movie or head to a local mall or fire hall for trick or treating.
