Town of Hamburg, NY (WKBW) - More than a month and a half after an unsolved hit and run took the life of Jennifer Martello, the young mother's family is banding together for her young child.

A small memorial still stands on Big Tree Road, where Jennifer Martello's life was taken. Her family is left with many questions.

"We lost beautiful, beautiful Jenny," says Martello's cousin, Emilee James. "We don't know how, we don't know why, we don't know what happened really."

The 29-year-old Hamburg woman was found unconscious on Big Tree Road shortly after midnight in mid-July. She later died at ECMC. Police are investigating the case as a hit and run.

The family has come together to support Martello's 14-month-old daughter, Amelia.

"She worked two jobs to support her family and pay the bills," recalls James. "It was important to her that Amelia reach her goals and dreams. That's why we're doing the benefit."

James is now organizing a benefit for trust fund for Amelia. Loved ones hope to give the little girl the opportunities Jennifer dreamed she would have.

The benefit will be on Saturday, September 13th at six in the evening. It will take place at the Knights of Columbus at 261 S. Legion Drive in Buffalo.

The fundraiser will include live music, a silent auction, drinks and food.

Tickets are $20 pre-sale or $25 at the door.
