BUFFALO, NY (WKBW-TV) For the second time in less than a month, a vacant home at 69 Blake Street in Buffalo has caught on fire.

The Buffalo Fire Department had to call for 2-alarms because man-power and equipment was needed to bring in water from different areas.

The blaze broke out around 9am Sunday, and spread to a next-door house at 65 Blake Street, Buffalo.

Inside were five relatives who had gathered for a family party and sleep-over - all were still sleeping and unaware that their home had caught on fire.

"Everybody was asleep in the house," says Shadia Tucker, who escaped from the burning house.

"I didn't hear nothing. I heard somebody knocking at the door."

The person knocking was Tasha Walker, a neighbor from across the street, who had spotted the fire, called 911, and then ran to alert her neighbors.

"I woke up to heat and had to run downstairs," says 16-year old Chelsea Knightner, who was upstairs in th burning home.

Buffalo Fire Commissioner Garnell Whitfield, Jr. says nine people were displaced by the vacant building blaze which caused damage to three other homes.

The Commissioner says some firefighters suffered minor back injuries, but they did not have to be transported to the hospital.

The cause of the fire in under investigation.
