Carlton, N.Y. - Seven fire companies fought flames after an explosion at 1173 Point Breeze Road in Carlton just before 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.
92-year-old Roy Bannister, was awake in his art studio, according to his son Roger Bannister, who lives next door. When Roger heard the explosion, it was so loud he thought it might be a terrorist attack.
He ran next door and dug through the rubble to find his father, who was conscious and talking--saying he wanted to find his wife.
Both Roy and Doris Bannister were taken to Strong Hospital. Roy was taken by Mercy Flight.
Roger knew a large propane tank was located near the house, but found it had stayed intact. He said it was a miracle his dad had survived the explosion, which did blow apart the carport, garage, and part of the house.
The Bannisters' conditions are not known at this time.
