Andrea Morgante is coming forward to prevent what allegedly happened to her daughter from happening to anyone else.
Morgante's daughter Lea-Marie filed a lawsuit against the Amherst Police department for a 2012 incident where her daughter claimed an officer beat her and left her with bruises during an unlawful arrest while she was parked in front of her mother's home.
Lea-Marie died unexpectedly due to an unrelated issue before the case was resolved.
"She was totally distraught by what had happened and she was having a hard time walking because of the beating that she had taken," said Morgante.
The same officer, John Fiore, involved in Lea-Marie's case is also named in another brutality lawsuit where a man was allegedly beaten while handcuffed inside the Amherst Police station and suffered two chipped teeth and a concussion.
Assistant Chief Charles Cohen says the Department plans to fight that case.
