(Erie County, NY) Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz announced the county's subsidized day care program is being increased.
Starting March 5th, the income eligibility level will be raised to 200% of Federal Poverty Level.
It is currently 175% of the Federal Poverty Level.
The increase means more families will be eligible for assistance in paying for day care expenses.
County officials expect to be able to help an additional 200 children.
The program is intended to help low-income families pay for day care, so parents can hold a job.
To be eligible, applicants need to provide proof of employment, income levels, and verification of the child's placement in a day care center.
County officials say they are able to raise the income standard with no fiscal impact until 2014 by leveraging available federal and state child care funds.
However, there is only limited money available, so people interested in applying are encouraged to apply soon.
