Erie County Sheriff Candidates Gear Up For Election Day

ERIE COUNTY, N.Y. (WKBW) - With Election Day only 2 days away, the candidates for Erie County Sheriff are gearing up for the big day.

There is mixed emotions from each of the three candidates running for Erie County Sheriff when it comes to seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

After months of campaigning, Election Day is right around the corner.

Here is how each of the candidates stands on key issues:

New York State Safe Act:

Sheriff Tim Howard:

He says he will not enforce it.
"Every time there's a debate or conflict between the State or constitution, we've been taught that the US constitution prevails."

Democratic Candidate Dick Dobson:

"It's our job to enforce all the laws of the State of NY. And that's whether we like the laws or not."

Law and Order Party Candidate Bert Dunn:

"It's really not up to as police officers, what not to enforce and what not to.

Here is what the candidates had to say about the Erie County Hold Center, where inmate suicide remains a big issue:

Democratic Candidate Dick Dobson:

"Especially the suicides and escape from mental facility -- is unconsionable."

Sheriff Tim Howard:

"Despite what others would say, prevented suicide is a positive statistic, because of the number of individuals with mental health problems that are in the facilities."

Law and Order Party Candidate Bert Dunn:
"He's waiting for the Department of Justice to come in and tell him how to do it. But you know what, there is lots of opportunities out there."
