Erie County Launches Interactive Website

January 19, 2011 Updated Jan 19, 2011 at 2:59 PM EDT

(RELEASE) Erie County Executive Chris Collins debuted an interactive website today that allows developers, business owners and realtors the opportunity to take virtual tours of Erie County’s industrial and business parks right from their computer. Erie County’s Department of Planning & Environment developed the website, along with support from National Grid and the Erie County Industrial Development Agency.

The website is believed to be the first of its kind in its ability to allow interested parties not only access to property summaries and site statistics, but detailed imagery using the latest GIS (geographic information system) technology. The site highlights Erie County’s 30 industrial or business parks.

“As my administration works to rebuild the local economy, we are constantly thinking of ways to make development easier for people interested in investing in our community,” said Erie County Executive Chris Collins. “This new website allows developers the opportunity to browse the County’s entire inventory of industrial and business parks, with detailed imagery and in-depth information, without ever having to walk away from their computer. Erie County’s industrial and business parks offer tremendous opportunity and this website is about showcasing that opportunity.”

The website allows people to search in general or with very specific criteria. Once a site has been selected, developers can access geographic, utility and zoning information, local and state incentives tied to that parcel, specific details about the surrounding community, transportation and access information, as well as aerial and street views.

“The Department of Environment & Planning’s top goal is to make Erie County a friendly place to conduct business,” said Commissioner Kathy Konst. “This website is another critical step in that effort, allowing us to share information and our expertise in an interactive and user friendly way.”
