BUFFALO, NY (WKBW)- Was it a case of mistaken identity? Another inmate at the Erie County Holding Center has been accidentally released. The slip up happened in Buffalo City Court when Erie County Sheriff's Deputies confused 25-year-old Paris Williams with another inmate with the same last name. Officials say 26-year-old James Williams was set to be released Thursday on a minor offense, but somehow Paris Williams was released. Paris Williams was being held at the holding center after allegedly stole a car Wednesday. He was charged with criminal possession of stolen property (more than $3,000), unauthorized use of a vehicle, and other charges. Jail officials have now launched an investigation to find out what happened. This marks the third accidental inmate release in three months.

"In the past, we've had issues with paperwork from different courts but that doesn't seem to be the case this time. We've investigated our policies and the policies are sound. We'll have to see where this investigation leads," said Deputy Superintendent of the Erie County Holding Center Michael Reardon.

Paris Williams was taken back into custody Friday morning. He remains at the Erie County Holding Center on $5,000 bail.
