( RELEASE ) Erie County Executive Chris Collins and Parks Commissioner Jim Hornung are pleased to announce the County’s Elma Meadows Golf Course will officially open on Wednesday, April 13th at 7 a.m. Grover Cleveland will open Friday, April 15th at 7 a.m. Once again rates for the 2011 season were not increased.
During the 2010 season, the two courses hosted 60,000 rounds of golf, with 1,600 season passes sold.
County Executive Chris Collins said, “With a very long winter season behind us, we’re looking forward to seeing golfers out on the links again. I am happy our Parks Department is able to open both courses without a rate increase again this year.”
“Each year we try to make golfing on our County courses more convenient for taxpayers,” said Parks Commissioner Jim Hornung. “We are able to offer permits and tee times through our website and by phone this year. Our parks department employees have worked very hard to prepare the courses for another great season ahead.”
Season passes range from $210-$420, with special discounts for seniors and youth. Golfers may access permit applications at the courses, online at www.erie.gov/parks or by calling 836-7398. The website contains a complete list of pricing options. **New this year, seniors and youth do not need to purchase a discount pass to take advantage of special pricing. Those 16 and under of 62 and older may simply bring identification to either course to receive the discount Monday through Friday.
Tee times are available seven days a week through the County website www.erie.gov/parks or by an automated phone-in system. Callers may access the system by calling (716) 858-8585, 24 hours a day for reservations up to a week in advance. You may download the Tee Time Brochure on the County website for more detailed instruction.

Thanks to the program Bunkers in Baghdad, veterans will once again receive free golf balls at the Erie County Courses this summer. The county Veterans’ Service Agency, Parks Department, and Bunkers in Baghdad will provide the balls. Active duty and retired military personnel simply produce a valid membership card from a veteran’s service organization. Bunkers in Baghdad is a local not for profit agency that has shipped more than 100,000 golf balls and golf equipment to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Both courses are happy to host golf tournaments. For more information, call 836-7398.
