BUFFALO, NY ( WKBW ) It's February. It's cold. Many people say it's been a long winter already but the Powder Keg Festival will have you embracing the winter.
All the activities will take place in the Seneca Street area of downtown Buffalo. One of the main events of the festival will take place on the Skyway ramp. Organizers are shutting down the ramp at 9 a.m. for the entire weekend so people can use it to sled. They will provide sleds to those who want to participate.
There will be carriage rides and a petting zoo for the kids. They will also have a winter game competition at the Coca-Cola Field parking lot featuring Can Jam, Broom Ball and Snow Tennis. The adults will enjoy a beer tent heated to a comfortable 60 degrees.
There will be a homemade chili contest Sunday at 2p.m. judged by our own Ginger Geoffery and hosted by Mike Randall from Channel 7's "Eyewitness News This Morning." The family could also enjoy soup, hot chocolate and other goodies to keep them warm.
The festival will kick off Friday at 5p.m.. with an Icebreaker Party featuring live music and a Buffalo trivia contest with the "Quizmaster" Dennis George.
The Powder Keg Festival is not the only event taking place this weekend. The Labatt Blue Buffalo Pond Hockey Tournament is also happening at the Erie Basin Marina. More than 100 teams will be there fighting for the title. The hockey tournament starts at 12:45 p.m.
In addition, the Buffalo Auto Show continues at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center through the weekend. For more information on these events, go to "news links" at wkbw.com
