Dozens carrying "Save Our Hospital" signs gathered at Veteran's Park in Lockport to up the effort to help save services at Eastern Niagara Hospital in Newfane.

The Eastern Niagara Hospital's Board of Directors announced four months ago plans to close inpatient services at Newfane, rerouting patients to the hospital in Lockport.

This community coalition, including Assemblywoman Jane Corwin and Lockport Mayor Anne McCaffrey is now asking the State Department of Health to provide a full review of Eastern Niagara Hospital's request to downsize services.

The facility in Newfane would keep outpatient services and provide some emergency care, but the surgical and inpatient services would only be provided at the Lockport hospital.

The State Department of Health will have the final say on the plans, but this community coalition says the public has been left out of the process and needs to be heard.
