LEROY, NY (release) The Environmental Protection Agency says they will continue to sample the contents of the drums at the Lehigh Valley Derailment Superfund site and plans to remove them to an appropriate waste disposal facility before the end of the month. The contents of the drums are soil and rock material from the digging of the ground water monitoring wells at the site. The sampling is necessary to characterize the material so we know where to dispose of the drums.
EPA has not yet made a determination about where the drums will be sent, but there are multiple licensed waste disposal sites that can receive them. We continue to work closely with Senators Schumer and Gillibrand and Representative Hochul to address the concerns of the Le Roy community.
