BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation said Tuesday at a meeting of the board of directors that they are considering a number of potential anchor tenants for the Canal Side Project.
"It is our objective go out and hopefully find an appropriate anchor tenant that will be an iconic member of the community. They won't be something that exists here in Western New York already," said Jordan Levy, ECHDC Chairman.
Levy did not give a 'yes' or 'no' answer on recent speculation that 'Ikea' could fill the vacancy left when Bass Pro backed out.
The ECHDC did announce the hiring of a consulting firm to help develop a plan for the cultural attractions that will be a part of the Canal Side project. These would include museums, galleries and historical elements that organizers would seek to have come to the waterfront.
The Harbor Development Corporation also discussed plans to vote on a federal grant that would fund the building of a bridge to connect the inner and outer harbors across the Buffalo River.
