DUNKIRK, N.Y. (WKBW) - Governor Cuomo has announced a $150 million agreement that will repower and expand the Dunkirk Power Plant.
The plant will be transformed from coal to a natural gas facility, which is expected to improve the reliability of the electric system, lower bills for consumers, and decrease emissions.
The plant was facing a possible shut-down.
Thousands within the community were a part of the effort to repower the plant, including writing and calling legislators, rallying in Albany and at home.
This new expansion will create 50 jobs. The new facility will open in 2015.
