The Sheriff's have released the name of the drowning victim. 66 year old William Copping of Youngstown drowned earlier Saturday in the Sunset Bay Marina.
Saturday morning, a 911 call was received from a retired sheriff’s investigator who reported a body floating in the harbor near the Sunset Bay Marina. Sheriff’s deputies along with the Wilson Fire Company were dispatched to the scene and quickly recovered a deceased adult male from the water near the boat launch.
A 28 foot Boston Whaler fishing boat was also located, unoccupied about 100 yards away from the victim. The vessel was registered to the victim. Initial investigation reveals that the victim may have fell into the water while attempting to launch his boat which was being stored at the Marina. The Sheriff’s Marine Division was also called to the scene to examine the vessel. Investigators interviewed an employee of the marina who reported speaking with the victim by phone about 35 minutes prior to the 911 call. EWN is following this story.
