NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WKBW) The future of the nation's secret drone program is now surrounded in controversy after a Justice Department document showed that American citizens tied to Al-Qaeda can be killed without clear evidence as long as a high level official believes they pose an imminent threat.

The revelation is sparking a lot of debate in Washington, and it raises the question of whether the newly assigned drone mission for the 107th Airlift Wing could be affected.

"No. To move the drones over the Niagara Air Force Base is in the defense bill that we just passed. It will mean 500 new jobs and a great future because the drones are going to increase," said US Senator Charles Schumer.

The Department of Defense still has to decide if local Air National Guardsmen will pilot 'spy-drones' or versions armed with missiles.
