GRAND ISLAND, NY (WKBW) - Volunteers spent weeks collecting signatures on petitions to move the downsizing effort forward on Grand Island.

Supporters of the movement were able to collect over 1,000 signatures to force a vote to reduce the size of the Grand Island Town Board from five members to three.

So far this year, five other towns have voted to downsize their town boards. Three more communities are expected to vote to dissolve their village governments completely.

A vote on downsizing in Grand Island is expected to take place this fall.
