BUFFALO (WKBW) The way Shannon Tirado described her dog was "like a family member." Her eyes filled with tears as she talked exclusively to Eyewitness News about her dog, a one year old pitbull named Diamond, who was beaten at the hands of her own brother and caught on video.

The clip was posted to YouTube, and graphically shows a man punching and kicking a dog on Chandler Street in Buffalo. The dog belongs to Tirado. The man is her brother.

"I'm very upset with my brother. To think that he would do something to a dog, who lives in my home, to treat my dog the way he treated it, I didn't think he would do something like this," she said.

32 year old David Roman was arrested and charged after the SPCA was tipped off and given the video. The dog was taken by the SPCA for treatment.

"It is impossible to tell if there is brain damage right now. We have noticed some contusions. There are some pretty severe bruises. But, again no broken bones, which is a good thing. The dog seems much happier now. Today she is wagging her tail and she seems happy," Gina Browning of the SPCA said Monday.

Neighbors in the Black Rock neighborhood are still in shock after learning of what happened in their own community.

"He was just so mean to his dog. Why keep an animal if you cant take good care of it," neighbor Josey Miklos said.

Another neighbor, Autumn Standingwolf, works at a dog daycare. "It's very despicable, and heartbreaking. I work with dogs every day and to see how much love people shower on their dogs, and then to hear stories like this, it's heartbreaking."

As for the dog's owner, only questions remain. "She doesn't deserve to get hit. Why would he do something like this?" Tirado asked.

David Roman will be arraigned in Buffalo City Court Tuesday morning. He is being charged with animal cruelty.
