Deputy Who Lost Legs In Crash Gets Special Delivery

BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - Niagara County Sheriff's Deputy Allen Gerhardt received a special delivery from Niagara County Mercy Flight Tuesday afternoon.

Deputy Gerhardt lost both of his legs after his cruiser crashed into a guardrail and into a ditch on July 18 while responding to a call.

Mercy Flight responded, helping to get Deputy Gerhardt to ECMC fast enough to save his life.

Tuesday, Mercy Flight of Niagara County flew in their newest helicopter and dropped of tickets to their 30th Anniversary Fundraiser Gala for Deputy Gerhardt, his wife and his parents.

Gerhardt, a former helicopter pilot himself, even got a front-seat ride in the new chopper.

Mercy Flight is a non-for-profit organization, and their fundraiser gala is being held this Friday, September 16 from 6:30 - 10:00 p.m. Individual tickets are $100.
