Buffalo, NY (WKBW) - Police search for the gunman responsible for killing a young couple in Buffalo's University District.
The shooting has left two families devastated, and a neighborhood sick and tired of violence.
Loved ones say was one of the victim was 28-year-old Shameka Harris, a mother of four. Those close to her, who did not want to be named, say she "would do anything for her kids," who were just eleven, nine, four and two years old.
Witnesses say some of the children were inside during the shooting.
Family members say her boyfriend, Joshua Eatmon, was the second victim.
Shani Gaymon, a friend of Eatmon, says "He was a wonderful person. He was funny, he was outgoing. I never know him to cause any trouble with anybody. He was harmless."
The shooting happened shortly after Midnight on the 400 Block of Minnesota Avenue in the University District.
Neighbors say they heard about eight shots fired -- adding they are sick of the violence.
Curtis Lewis says "this area is deadly." After the overnight shooting, Lewis says he wants to leave the area, because "it's very frustrating. I'm going to look for a house."
Overnight, police taped off a taxicab as part of the crime scene.
Buffalo police are not saying why, but neighbors tell Eyewitness News that Shameka worked for Public Transportation.
One witness says just ten minutes before the shots were fired, she saw Shameka and Joshua inside the cab, driving towards Bailey Avenue.
The overnight killings make for the 45th and 46th homicides in Buffalo this year. Almost 40 of them were shootings.
Last year, in 2011, Buffalo saw about 35 homicides. That's down from 55 in 2010.
