Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW) - Lawmakers said deadbeat moms and dads are a huge problem in the area. These parents refuse to pay child support. Lawmakers are getting creative to get them to pay up.
You may have seen most wanted posters for criminals. Now, there is a new bill that just passed the State Senate that would make public a listing of all deadbeat parents in Western New York. Their pictures, names and other information would be shared.
Lawmakers said it will help police track down these parents and may cause enough shame that parents would pay up so they are not exposed.
"The collection of child support payments has escalated to the point where we must ask for the public's help in notifying us as to where the deadbeat parents are," Senator Martin Golden said.
Those who would be on the list will be notified beforehand. It would only target parents who owe $10,000 or more. It moves onto the State Assembly for it's consideration.
