DARIEN CENTER, NY (WKBW Release) - Darien Lake opened today for an exciting 2013 season. The park’s 50th year kicked off with a Founder’s Day celebration recognizing the foresight and contributions of Darien Lake founder and Buffalo businessman Paul Snyder.
This season, Darien Lake offers new attractions and entertainment, including:
- “Ignite the Night,” an all-new, multi-million dollar laser spectacular. A four-story, 100-foot-wide water screen sets the backdrop for cutting-edge video and laser projection, heart-thumping pyrotechnics, and hydro-cannons that shoot water more than 35 feet in the air. Video will pay tribute to everyday heroes, such as police officers, fire fighters, nurses and armed service workers.
New in-park family entertainment including new live shows, from an amazing animal show, “Wild World of Animals,” to great shows for the kids in Beaver Brother’s Bay, to other shows such as water-jumping dogs, a hypnotist, an illusionist and more! A new concert series on the Gazebo Stage will showcase Buffalo and Western New York musical talent, and beginning June 23, each Sunday will feature a different musical group competing in the season-long “Last Band Standing.”
Expanded lodging options to build on the park’s 50-year camping tradition and to make staying overnight part of the experience. Unique accommodations, available on-site, include new guest houses that sleep up to 10 people. The guest houses bolster existing on-site lodging options, such as the 160-room hotel, 57 luxury cabins, glamping (glamour camping) sites, RV pull-through sites, and traditional camping and RV rentals.
Lakefront Boardwalk, which lets families go back in time to the 1940s and 1950s visiting an amusement park by the lake. This area features a new boardwalk along Fun Lake, a renovated carousel, a misting station and new food choices including a new Anchor Bar restaurant.
Guests to the park this season also will experience other ties to Western New York traditions, from the new Anchor Bar restaurant, to an exciting new partnership with Tops Friendly Markets and continued relationships with Perry’s Ice Cream, Sahlen’s Hot Dogs and Tim Hortons.
“When Paul Snyder launched Darien Lake in 1964, he envisioned a place for families from Western New York and Canada to come and enjoy quality family time,” said Bob Montgomery, general manager, Darien Lake. “During our 50th season of family fun, Darien Lake is returning to its roots, giving families the very best that Western New York has to offer and a destination that they can all agree on for rediscovering time together.”
Darien Lake founder Paul Snyder said, “Moments of happiness and joy are our most precious gifts on earth. They are meant to be shared with those you love. My dream was to create a place where happy family memories will forever endure.”
Guests can still purchase Season Passes, which offer unlimited admission to rides, the water park and live shows throughout the entire 2013 season. Until Memorial Day, Season-Pass buyers can save $10 off the regular purchase price of $74.99 and get free season-long parking.
