WEST SENECA, NY ( WKBW ) According to 8 year old Isabella Stobert of West Seneca, "My Dad is a hero. He does lots of good stuff for our country. My Dad is in the Army. He is the best."
You won't find anyone who will disagree. In fact, there are many people who not only share Isabella's feelings, but rewarded her for them.
Isabella is a second grader, and heard about a contest sponsored by the Armed Services YMCA. The contest asked students to write an essay about a military hero. So, Isabella thought why not, she had the perfect candidate...U.S. Army Reserve Captain Nathaniel Stobert...her Dad!
Isabella told Eyewitness News, "He is in Fort Dix New Jersey right now...He's going to Afghanistan...for 15 months."
15 months is a long time, especially when you have to leave behind a wife and children, and a new baby on the way.
Isabella took pen to paper and shared her thoughts about her family. She sent the essay in, and won first place for her age group.
The result? Isabella now gets a $500 Savings Bond, a trip to Washington, and a chance to meet First Lady Michelle Obama.
The real prize is the love Isabella has shared with her Dad, family, and now the entire world.
Congratulations Isabella Stobert, an Eyewitness News "Person Of The Week!"
