Newfane, N.Y. (WKBW-TV) A group of residents and employees who are working to keep the Newfane branch of Eastern Niagara Hospitals open, walked out of a meeting while the board chairman spoke.

The hospital is set to shut down in-patient and surgical services in October. Residents are concerned because they fear the drive to the nearest location in Lockport puts the health and safety of the community in jeopardy.

The town has hired a legal firm in hopes of blocking the plans to restructure the site.
