Hamburg, N.Y. (WKBW) The cold temperatures kept many of us inside Tuesday but in the Village of Hamburg it was a totally different story.

The freezing conditions made for an ideal night to transform the Pleasant Avenue Field into an ice rink.

The annual process got underway at about 6:30 p.m. with several volunteers, many of them junior volunteer firefighters, flooding the rink and laying down two to three coats of water to freeze for the rink.

The project is a partnership between the Rec Department and the Hamburg Volunteer Fire Department. Several thousand gallons of water are needed to complete the rink.

The rink should be open by Wednesday.

Officials say the public can skate for free at their own risk.

The rink is located between Pleasant and Maple Avenues in Hamburg.
