Buffalo, NY (WKBW) - Saturday, thousands of people will fill Roosevelt Plaza to ring in 2012 at the 24th annual "Buffalo Ball Drop & Fireworks" event outside the Electric Tower in Downtown Buffalo.

Last year's event drew in 40,000 people and organizers promise this year will be bigger and better than ever! Participants can enjoy live entertainment from local singer Caitlin Koch and the Jamie Moses band starting at 10:30 p.m.

The night will conclude with fireworks at midnight.

Wednesday, crews spent much of the day inspecting and testing the new year's eve ball.

Coverage of the event will begin with Eyewitness News at 11pm followed by "Countdown to 2012 / Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" on ABC and Channel 7.

The Buffalo Ball Drop & Fireworks is free and open to the public. Sponsors include Independent Health, The WNY Chevy Dealers, and FWS Home Furnishings.

Sponsorship fees benefit the Buffalo Police Athletic League, that produces the event.
