BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - Daniel Derenda has been confirmed as the next Buffalo Police Commissioner.
The Buffalo Common Council approved the Mayor's nomination by a vote of 5-4 in a special session Wednesday.
Derenda's nomination came under fire of late due to concerns over his lack of a college degree. Common council members have criticized the city over the nomination process and the claimed 'national search' performed by the City.
Monday, Council members questioned the City Human Resources Commissioner after it was learned no money was spent to recruit outside applicants for the position.
Derenda had served as Interim Police Commissioner since January 1, when former commissioner H. McCarthy Gipson was let go.
