Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW) - Buffalo fire fighters were busy early Thursday morning after being called to Plymouth Avenue around 2:45 a.m. They arrived to find a small cottage engulfed in flames.

Three people were in the house. They did escape but two of the occupants suffered minor burns to their legs. They were taken to ECMC for treatment.

This cottage was in the backyard of another house at 301 Plymouth Avenue. It was also in close proximity to other homes, so crews called in additional fire departments. They were working to prevent the blaze from spreading.

"We got it from both sides. We were on the adjacent street also. We had crews coming from both sides. Again, the property was sitting in the back of this property here in the rear so it gave us some access problems. The guys did a great job from stopping it from spreading to other homes," Buffalo Fire Commissioner Garnell Whitfield said.

Fire officials said the cottage is a complete loss. Luckily, the surrounding homes were spared. They do not have a dollar amount on the damage and are still investigating.

Meanwhile, the residents injured are expected to recover. The Red Cross has stepped in to help the family find clothes and a place to stay.
