Beginning Sunday night and continuing through the rest of the week, the on and off ramps of the New York State Thruway at Exit 51 and Exit 52, near the Galleria Mall and the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, will be closed in both directions for construction.

New York State Thruway Authority workers want you to rest assured they are doing everything in their power to prevent traffic and delays for motorists.

The barrier repair work is scheduled between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday night through Friday as long as the weather cooperates.

The Thruway Authority says that 7 hour span is the least traveled time of the day.

Eyewitness News spoke to some motorists who are concerned the repair work will run into the morning commute hours causing heavy delays and back-up on the roads.

"I think it is going to slow things down quite a bit," said one concerned motorist. "It really is a busy area."

Others say from what they can see, the ramps do not need repair and construction on such a heavily traveled area is unnecessary.

"It's already the most congested part of the 90 in the morning and in the afternoon so to close those two avenues I really can't even imagine what that would do to traffic," said another concerned motorist.

Despite the concerns, the construction will go on and residents say they will plan an alternate route if necessary.
