BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - The splash pad at MLK Park will help city residents stay cool starting on July 1, city leaders announced Tuesday night as the updated the public on the long-awaited project.
The $4.5 million splash pad will have five acres of concrete, with 60-80 yards of concrete being poured daily, said Steven Stepniak, the city's commissioner of public works.
"In the spring it will be an ornamental reflecting pond. There will be sprays, something where people can sit and reflect and look at the beauty of the water," said Mayor Byron Brown.
In the winter, the pad will be converted into an ice rink.
The surrounding Fillmore neighborhood will see improvements with several street scheduled to be repaved this summer.
